Leclerc critical of Ferrari car after Miami GP: "Struggling like crazy"
Charles Leclerc finished in P7 and rounded out another underperforming weekend for Ferrari. They expected to bring the fight to Red Bull during the 2023 Formula 1 season, but they are behind Aston Martin and Mercedes. Leclerc even brings Alpine into the picture after a good result for Pierre Gasly in Miami.
The frustration and tension could be felt through the Sky Sports cameras. On Saturday, Leclerc made a mistake and crashed in qualifying, preventing a better grid position. However, it was clear on race day that Ferrari didn't have the long-run pace. A lesson that Leclerc wants his team to learn.
Frustrations are growing
"We are competitive in qualifying, but when we come to race day, we are struggling like crazy. We have a lot of work to do. We have been struggling in races for some time now. Mercedes are quick. Aston are quick, and Alpine didn't look too bad either," Leclerc said straight after the Miami Grand Prix.
Leclerc then goes on to explain the issues in more detail: "The window of our car is so narrow. Whenever you go a little bit out there is a huge consequence. It's from one corner to another. You can have huge understeer in one corner that goes to huge oversteer in another. This is not ideal to have confidence in the car. Consistency is what we are lacking at the moment."
