Drivers happy with decision: 'Safety always comes first'
The news broke earlier today that the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix had been cancelled due to severe flooding in the region and the drivers have been giving their reactions to the situation.
Lewis Hamilton went to Instagram to support the people in Italy:
George Russell understands the decision to cancel the race weekend in Imola. "Sorry for the fans that this weekend’s race has been cancelled but the safety of everyone involved always has to come first. Wishing all the best to everyone in the Emilia-Romagna region and surrounding areas that have been affected by these floods." the Mercedes driver said on Twitter.

Lando Norris also supports the decision not to go ahead with the GP in Imola. "I love racing, but the safety of everyone else is more important. Sorry to all the fans, we’ll be back Imola, stay safe," Norris said on Twitter. Max Verstappen also said it was "only logical" to call off the Grand Prix.

Like Russell and Norris, Sergio Perez also supports the decision not to go ahead with the weekend. "All my thoughts and prays with the people in the Italian region of Emilia Romagna We’re not racing there this weekend, but hopefully we can get back soon," the Mexican said on Twitter.
Following the heavy rain that has been affecting northern Italy, we support the decision taken by @F1 to not proceed with the Grand Prix in Imola this weekend. Safety to all those involved and in the region is paramount and has to take priority.
