It is time for qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix. This Saturday is arguably the most important of the year, as overtaking is always quite difficult on Sunday. Who will secure pole position this afternoon? Will it be Max Verstappen again, teammate Sergio Perez or will another team take the fastest time? Aston Martin look to maximise their strengths, Ferrrari are on the pace and Mercedes are equipped with new upgrades.

Red Bull Racing had a difficult start to the weekend in Monaco. In the first free practice session, the RB19 was not where it should be, but appropriate action was taken and Max Verstappen was fastest in both FP2 and FP3. Teammate Perez, usually very good on street circuits, was close behind in the final practice session and so it promises to be an exciting internal team battle.

Competition for Red Bull?

But Verstappen and Perez must also take into account Aston Martin and Ferrari. Both teams conceded very little on the RB19s' times and so it will be important to maximise every lap. Mercedes, despite the updates brought along, don't seem a candidate for pole position. Though Hamilton did set a purple sector one time before crashing in FP3.

Besides a flawless lap, Formula 1 drivers also need a bit of luck. We already saw a red flag in all free practice sessions this weekend, so the chances of a code red in qualifying are considerable. A red flag can prevent you from finishing your lap and ending up on the wrong side of the line. Follow all the spectacle below via our liveblog.
