F2 sprint race results | Win for Iwasa, Daruvala second
- GPblog.com
Ayumu Iwasa has won the F2 sprint race in Monaco. The Red Bull junior started the race in second, but was easily able to take over the lead after an engine problem for pole man Isack Hadjar. The race did not provide a lot of action.
The start of the sprint race went quietly, until the chicane after the tunnel. Here, Clement Novalak braked too late and thus tapped Kush Maini into the lap, triggering a safety car. Novalak received a 10-second time penalty for this. The incident caused a 'traffic jam', Roy Nissany and Ralph Boschung could not get their cars running after this 'traffic jam' and crashed out.
After the restart, pole man and then leader Hadjar immediately fell back into the field, with an engine problem which even caused a retirement. As a result, Iwasa easily took over the lead, which the Japanese did not relinquish after that. After the safety car restart, there was little spectacle, there was only one overtaking action.
Right after the only overtaking action, Amaury Cordeel ended up in the wall, causing the second safety car of the race. On the restart, Oliver Bearman hit the wall, forcing the Brit to retire early. After the restart, there was no more action and Iwasa drove easily to victory.
