De Vries on updates AlphaTauri: 'Barcelona is going to give us answers'
Nyck de Vries recorded his best result of the season in Monaco, but points were yet to come for the AlphaTauri driver there. Next weekend the Spanish Grand Prix is on the programme and the Dutchman knows no track better than the Barcelona circuit. He hopes that will help in the quest for his first top-ten finish of 2023.
Looking ahead to the seventh Grand Prix of the season, De Vries says: "I’m glad we can go racing again immediately as there are several positives we can take from Monaco, even if the final result didn’t match our expectations. I had a clean weekend with no mistakes; it was my best qualifying of the year and in performance terms we were closer to the top ten than we had been."
The 28-year-old driver feels good about the updates introduced in Monaco last weekend. "It seemed to work, but we must wait for the Barcelona track to give us some real answers as Monaco is not at all representative. It means we will have plenty of work to do during Friday’s free practice."
Tsunoda hopes for step forward
Yuki Tsunoda will also be looking for points in Spain. He speaks words to the same effect about the updates. "We got plenty of data relating to our updates in Monaco, but on the Spanish track we will definitely get a clearer picture of how they work and if they can put us more regularly in the points." AlphaTauri is currently on two points, good for penultimate place in the World Championship.
