Vettel finds new challenge six months after F1 departure
Sebastian Vettel has found a new challenge six months after leaving Formula 1. The four-time world champion is going to throw himself into sailing. The 35-year-old German will join the sailing competition 'SailGP' as a co-investor of the new team Germany.
So why sail? It has everything to do with the sustainable concept. "I participate because the sport format offers extremely fast and very exciting races. The boats are only powered by the wind." So the races are (as good as) climate-neutral, something Vettel values very highly. In his final years in Formula 1, he also made a strong case for the climate on several occasions.
Within the SailGP competition, a second league is also reportedly being added. The 'Impact League' will feature 'climate-positive measures' of the participating teams. The SailGP will start from 16 June in the US city of Chicago.
