Max Verstappen is in top form. The two-time world champion won in Monaco last weekend and hopes to be the best in Spain on Sunday too. During the press conference, which was also attended by GPblog, the Dutchman looked ahead to the Grand Prix near Barcelona.
First, a look back at that fantastic qualifying in Monaco. Whether it was his best weekend of 2023? "I don't know. I mean, it was probably a good one," says Verstappen, who stated that he had to push hard on both Saturday and Sunday. "But also once I crossed the line, I was like, I'm happy the weekend is over. It's very hectic and quite stressful."
Spain is scheduled to host the seventh Grand Prix of the season. The Red Bull driver is happy to return more to the Circuit de Catalunya. "So I'm also looking forward to this weekend, you know, it's a proper race track and this is where a formula one car comes alive," he said. Helmut Marko already announced that his team would "try something new" in Spain. Verstappen on that: "I think Helmet got a bit excited as well. So, I don't know. I mean, we just do our normal program and nothing crazy."
Verstappen focused on good set-up
Verstappen is going for his fifth win of the season in Barcelona. That's not done overnight, the 25-year-old Dutchman warns. "I mean, we still of course, need to find a good balance. But I think as long as we have a good balance in the car, we, we can have a good weekend."
