Blow for Perez: 'Formula One is my life, so that hurts a lot'
Sergio Perez will be happy to be in Barcelona: a chance for revenge. The Mexican experienced a very difficult weekend in Monaco. After crashing in Q1 of qualifying, the Red Bull driver had to start from behind on Sunday. Two hours of struggling with the car, the weather and the competition followed for the number two in the championship.
The crash fell heavily on the driver, he indicated at the press conference, which was also attended by GPblog. "Formula One is my passion and I live for it. It hurts a lot," the Mexican was referring to his unsuccessful weekend in Monaco. "you work so hard, it feels like you have left your whole team down." Perez now wants to put the weekend behind him. "it was important for me to put my hand up and I think every time you do a mistake it's what you have to do and take responsibility."
Perez has adapted better
Apart from his crashes, Perez does seem to be getting more speed out of his Red Bull this year. The gap to teammate Verstappen seems to have narrowed slightly. "I have adapted a lot better to the new car," states Perez. "I understand the weaknesses we had last year on the races as well, so I think we are approaching the races already at a much higher level in terms of preparation and understanding." The six-time race winner must hope it all falls his way this weekend. After all, the gap to championship leader Max Verstappen is already 39 points after six races.
