Windsor: 'Bad news for competition that Verstappen is SO relaxed'
Max Verstappen was the fastest driver on the track at every moment on Friday at the Spanish Grand Prix, with the Red Bull Racing driver even having time to listen in on Helmut Marko's phone over the team radio. That should worry the rest of the grid this weekend, according to Peter Windsor.
The F1 analyst looks at the results and events of the first two free practice sessions in Catalunya. In a video on YouTube, the Brit starts with something remarkable. Indeed, for the first time this year, the F1 teams seemed to be experiencing some bumps again, reminiscent of porpoising, a major problem that last year's cars suffered from.
In the modified final corner, Windsor saw that even the top teams did not escape the bumps, with the dominant RB19 even showing some bounce. Verstappen was, ultimately, the strongest man on Friday. Windsor: "In FP1, Verstappen already marked his authority on the weekend. Out of the box, immediately fastest on the soft tyre, on the medium tyre and on Pirelli's test tyre. He was at three-tenths faster than Perez at minimum, let alone the other drivers."
Bad news for competition Verstappen
This was not the only indication that the competition has to worry about Verstappen's speed in Spain. Windsor: "While driving, he heard a phone ringing. He said: 'I think that's Helmut's, someone should pick it up.' When world champions, racing drivers, start talking like that and showing how relaxed they are, that's bad news for everyone else."
