Russell and Gasly to stewards; possible penalty after qualifying
For George Russell and Pierre Gasly, it is not yet certain whether they will be allowed to start in the spots they qualified in. Gasly grabbed fourth place but had impeded Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz during the session. Russell collided with his teammate Lewis Hamilton, and the younger of the two has to explain the actions.
A bizarre moment during qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix. George Russell and Lewis Hamilton both appear to start a fast lap and then hit each other. Russell has to reckon with the slow-moving Carlos Sainz. The 25-year-old Briton goes past but then squeezes his teammate. The W14s hit each other, and for Russell, it is the end of qualifying in Q2 with the 12th fastest time. Hamilton made it to Q3, in which he took fifth place.
Verstappen and Sainz had to go to the stewards to explain how they were hindered by Gasly. Obstructing an opponent cost Charles Leclerc dearly in Monaco. He received a grid penalty of three spots for this offence, making the precedent only recent.
