Hamilton sees Mercedes upgrades working: 'Really proud of the team'
In Monaco, Mercedes came up with quite a few upgrades for the W14. In the principality, however, it was difficult to see how well the upgrades worked due to the unique circuit characteristics. Last weekend in Barcelona, it became clear that the German constructor has made considerable progress, and Lewis Hamilton is "really proud of his team".
On Saturday, Hamilton already spoke highly of his team. On Sunday, however, it got even better, as in terms of race pace, Mercedes were overwhelmingly the second team behind Red Bull Racing in Spain. George Russell even finished ahead of Sergio Perez, despite the Mexican having started further forward. Both Mercedes drivers finished on the podium in Spain, with Hamilton ahead of Russell. Max Verstappen, however, was still out of reach for the German team.
Hamilton very proud
Hamilton praised the upgrades brought by his team. " I'm really proud of the team. The guys in the garage continue to do an amazing job. I'm really proud to see that the upgrades are working and this has put us in the right direction," Hamilton told GPblog and others on Saturday.
Hamilton explains poor start in Spain
Despite the upgrades working well, Mercedes started the weekend poorly in Spain. "The car has a very small working window, basically, with the aero package that we have. So it's not a wide window where it just works everywhere and works in every setting. We really have to dial it down and just really try to fine-tune it always."
