Marko: 'I do not mean to be arrogant, but they didn't get any closer'
- Toby McLuskie
Red Bull Racing has yet to win all F1 races in 2023 and Dr Helmut Marko is not ruling out the team winning all races this season. The team of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez is looking at it race by race and for now they are targeting their 100th win.
Nearly 100 wins for Red Bull Racing
Indeed, the team stands at 99 wins. So there may be big celebrations in Canada. OE24 asked Marko how realistic it is for Red Bull to become the first team to win all the races of the season this year. The Austrian says: "It is possible. If Max has a failure or crashes, we still have Checo if he is in good form. But first let's win the 100th GP in Montreal and then go to the Austrian GP in Spielberg."
Special times are most likely coming for Red Bull. Should Red Bull win in Canada, the team will put one hundred F1 victories behind its name. With another win in Austria, it will break its own win streak of nine consecutive race victories.
No fear of Mercedes
In Spain, Mercedes was on P2 and P3 and Lewis Hamilton and George Russell shared the podium with Verstappen. Asked if Marko now feels the hot breath from Mercedes, the consultant says: "The updates have only brought about a change. No arrogant intention, but they have not really come closer. They have gone in a different direction. That in turn is good for us, because our lead in the championship is increasing with every race."
