Bottas on weak Alfa Romeo: 'There's still a lot of work to do, no doubt'
Alfa Romeo are struggling in 2023. On a good day, the car is just good enough for points, but points are often out of reach, and driver Valtteri Bottas knows that there is still a lot of work to do, as he gets motivation from the progression Aston Martin made in one winter.
In Monaco, Alfa Romeo came up with an update package for the car. However, this still did not allow both drivers to score any points in the principality. In Spain, progress seemed to have been made. Guanyu Zhou had good speed and finished ninth due to Yuki Tsunoda's penalty, picking up much-needed points for his team.
Bottas knows it needs to improve
Alfa Romeo is only on eight points after seven races in 2023, and Bottas knows his team needs to improve. "There's still a lot of work to do, no doubt. Everyone knows it in the team. I think one example team in this paddock is actually quite motivating to see what Aston was able to do over the winter," the Finn said in Spain in a press interview with GPblog and others.
Bottas surprised by Mercedes' performance
Since Bottas' departure from Mercedes at the end of 2021, the German constructor has surprisingly struggled in Formula 1. "Of course, it's surprising, knowing the team, knowing the people, the facilities. But yeah, never in the history of Formula 1 has a team dominated forever. That's just how it goes sometimes. I have no doubt that they will make progress."
