Max Verstappen starts the Canadian Grand Prix as the big favourite after three consecutive wins and with his wide lead in the world championship. A win in Montreal - where he trailed Carlos Sainz in his Ferrari by a close second last season - would see Verstappen move further away from the competition.

Verstappen is looking forward to the Grand Prix, according to a press release from his team Red Bull Racing: "It’s always nice to go back to Montreal, it’s a great city and the fans are great there. The track is very unique because you actually get to ride some old school kerbs and the scenery is pretty cool too," the Dutchman said.

'Good compromise necessary'

Canada is a very specific circuit, which has different challenges. Verstappen and his crew are well aware of this: "The car set up has to be a careful balance between straight-line speed and being able to run on the kerbs well, we have to find a good trade-off."

Verstappen only won for the first time in Canada last season, and he had to work hard for it at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. "Of course, last year's win is still in my mind so hopefully we can do something similar this weekend," the two-time champion concluded.
