Homage Alfa Romeo to four-leaf clover: 'Symbol of our heritage'
- Toby McLuskie
After this season, Alfa Romeo and Sauber will part ways. From '26, Sauber will be the factory team of Audi, and in the run-up to this, there is no place for Alfa Romeo's name sponsorship. In the run-up to the Canadian Grand Prix, the Italian car brand pays homage to the Quadrifoglio, the four-leaf clover that still adorns Alfa Romeo's sports cars today.
It is now 100 years since, at the 1923 Targa Florio, legendary racing driver Ugo Sivocci first painted the four-leaf clover on his Alfa Romeo RL Corsa. He then went on to win the event. So indeed the four-leaf clover brought luck, and since that day it has been on Alfa Romeo's sports cars. Also the C43, the current F1 car of Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu. "No symbol represents Alfa Romeo’s racing heritage better than the Quadrifoglio," Alfa Romeo thus states in a press release.
Four-leaf clover on the rear hood
To celebrate this milestone, and to pay tribute to now a century-old history represented by the Quadrifoglio, a special version of the logo will adorn Alfa Romeo's cars in Montreal. This four-leaf clover can be seen on the hood over the engine.
No doubt the team will be hoping for points with the lucky sign, just like last race in Barcelona. Then Zhou picked up two points with his ninth-place finish. Alessandro Alunni Bravi, Team Representative of Alfa Romeo, is confident that a repeat is possible. "We must keep up with the good performances: we know now, more than ever, that we have it in us, and if we execute a flawless weekend, we are perfectly capable to achieve even more," he said.
