Max Verstappen can match Ayrton Senna in terms of Grand Prix victories in Formula 1 this weekend. If the Red Bull Racing driver wins in Canada, he will reach 41 victories. Lewis Hamilton stands on 103 wins and is currently seeing his Dutch rival approaching very quickly, although the difference is of course considerable.

At the press conference, Hamilton was asked if it is possible that his record number of wins in the premier class of motorsport is coming to an end, although he says he hopes to set the record a little sharper himself. Hamilton is about to extend his contract at Mercedes and so he will do everything he can to stand on the top step of the podium a few more times.

Verstappen a threat to record?

"He has a long career ahead of him so absolutely. Records are there to be broken. He has an amazing team," Hamilton said ahead of the weekend at Circuit Gilles Villeneuves. "We have got to work harder to try and continue to extend it."

The seven-time world champion would be thrilled to have one-on-one battles with Verstappen on the track again soon. "I hope within the last period of time in my career, I hope we get to have more close racing," he said.

Little clarity on new contract

When Hamilton will announce that he will stay longer with Mercedes and for how many years he will sign, he would not release. "I don’t have a huge amount to say about my contract, it will be done when it’s done. If it’s next week or in a months time, as long as it’s done I’m not really bothered," he concluded his account.
