Max Verstappen grabbed pole position for the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix in a frantic rainy qualifying session. The Red Bull Racing driver timed everything perfectly every session and will start from P1 tomorrow.

Next to him is Nico Hulkenberg of Haas F1. That image says enough about the course of Friday afternoon's hectic session in Montreal. After Q3 resumed after the red flag, the rain made it impossible to accelerate. Verstappen was sure of his pole position minutes before the flag fell.

In the interview afterwards, Verstappen said, "Yesterday, maybe wasn't fantastic. So, we made a few changes to the car. Of course, today was wet, so its different. But I do think the car improved to drive. In the wet, you have to stay on top of the conditions. It was slippery in places. We made all the right calls, at the right time. Very happy to be on pole here."

Whether Verstappen enjoys driving extra when it rains? "I like driving in the wet. I'm from the Netherlands, right. There we are used to it. It's just fine tuning." It is likely that Verstappen will continue his team's dominant form again on Sunday: "It's not really a problem, but you want to improve little areas. If its dry tomorrow it would be different, but we usually have a good race car."
