Schumacher sees competition closing in: 'Red Bull is suffering now'

Max Verstappen also won the Canadian Grand Prix convincingly, but the lead was not as big as in Spain. For Ralf Schumacher, analyst of German Sky Sports, this is a sign that the competition is slowly starting to catch sight of Red Bull Racing.
In his column on the German pay-TV website, Schumacher discusses Red Bull's 100th victory in Formula 1. He calls this 'a great achievement'. "Dr Helmut Marko and Christian Horner have always managed to attract the right people," analyses the former F1 driver.
At the same time, he states, "The 100-victory mark could probably have been reached a little faster, but because of the presence of Adrian Newey, both Ferrari and Mercedes have always been against supplying engines [to Red Bull]. Red Bull suffered from this for a long time." As the Austrian team, according to the German, is still suffering from something, even at the moment.
Aston Martin and Mercedes are coming
After the penalty for exceeding the budget cap, Red Bull had to make do with fewer hours in the wind tunnel. That penalty did not miss its effect, Schumacher said: "You could already see in Montreal that the field has come closer together and that it is becoming more competitive. Aston Martin and Mercedes have closed the gap and Red Bull will suffer a bit from not being able to fully use the wind tunnel due to last year's penalty."
Schumacher is particularly impressed with Aston Martin. The German saw that the updates worked immediately. "I'm sure we can still expect a lot from the green cars. I currently see that Aston Martin is a bit ahead of Mercedes in terms of updates and think Fernando Alonso will be Verstappen's main competitor in the next race at the Red Bull Ring."
