Mercedes with hefty upgrades at Silverstone: 'Big steps'
- Toby McLuskie
Mercedes will come up with major updates to the W14 at Silverstone. While Mercedes' improvements are encouraging, the team knows it needs to do more if it wants to compete with Red Bull, which is why Toto Wolff and consorts are going to launch a package of developments to the car before the summer break.
Mercedes team boss Wolff said the Great Britain GP next month is one of two races where the team is looking to supply new parts. Max Verstappen's profit margin at the Canadian Grand Prix was a lot smaller than at other GPs this season.
Mercedes seems ever so slightly stronger
"It's just that the learnings have accelerated a lot since we changed some of the conceptual architecture. There should be decent steps coming in the next four races," Wolff was quoted as saying by Motorsport. "For us, we didn't expect to perform here in Canada, because how the car behaves at the moment is more with high-speed corners," the Austrian added.
In the battle for the constructors' championship, the team of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell is in second place. Behind Red Bull Racing, Mercedes holds a 13-point lead towards the Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso, among others.
