Berger and Ferrari keep looking: 'Hamilton-Leclerc duo would be strong'
Ferrari is running a bit of a shaky season. The Italian formation had very mediocre weekends in Spain and Monaco, but seems to be reasonably back to its old level in Canada. Gerhard Berger does not feel that Ferrari is struggling in terms of driver line-up.
"However, I don't think the drivers are the real problem for Ferrari, any more than they were in 2022. It's not down to their driving. Leclerc and Sainz are extremely strong. Leclerc is extremely fast, even if he still makes a few mistakes, but that is not what matters," the 63-year-old Berger told La Gazetta Dello Sport.
Leclerc and Hamilton?
The Monegasque Ferrari driver is often criticised for his occasionally reckless driving style, which occasionally lands him in the wall. Yet Berger thinks Ferrari would be better occupied with other things than its driver line-up.
"Ferrari won world championships even when they didn't have the number one behind the wheel. So we are better off concentrating on reorganising the team," Berger said. " The Leclerc-Hamilton duo would be very strong, but then you need a car that can handle it," he added.
