This is how Verstappen did at the Red Bull Ring in recent years
- Cas van de Kleut
After the Canadian Grand Prix, it is time for Red Bull Racing's home race. The team of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez is enjoying a successful season, winning every race so far. If history is to be believed, the chances of Verstappen winning next week too are very high.
Good results at the Red Bull Ring
The Dutchman has several good memories of the Austrian Grand Prix. In 2018, the two-time world champion took his first Austrian victory, whereas in 2019, after a catch-up race due to a poor start from the first row of the grid, a second victory was recorded. Two Grands Prix were held at the circuit in 2021, and both were also won by the Red Bull driver. Meanwhile, Verstappen is the record holder at the circuit with his four wins.
Last season
Last year, the Dutchman was also the big favourite to win the Grand Prix, but Charles Leclerc managed to surprise. Verstappen was still first in the sprint race, but Leclerc managed to overtake the Dutchman three times on Sunday. It could have been worse for the two-time world champion: Carlos Sainz dropped out after a problem with his engine, and otherwise, there would have been a good chance that he too would have passed the Dutchman.
Still, Red Bull seems to hold the best cards this year, although Aston Martin and Mercedes are improving their performances. Next week we will see: does Verstappen sharpen his record, or will another driver surprise?
