Max Verstappen secured pole position for Sunday's Grand Prix in qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix. The Red Bull Racing driver drove a 1:04.391. In doing so, Verstappen was just 48 thousandths faster than Charles Leclerc.

The second row of the grid is occupied by Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris. Behind them, we see Lewis Hamilton and Lance Stroll, who was surprisingly faster than teammate Fernando Alonso on P7. Nico Hulkenberg, Pierre Gasly and Alexander Albon complete the top ten.

Drama for Perez

Sergio Perez did not make it to Q3 for the fourth time in a row. The Mexican drove a time just a tenth slower than Verstappen on three occasions, but each time he coloured outside the lines at Turn 10, causing the race organisers to take away his time. Incidentally, George Russell was also eliminated in Q2, as he finished 11th.

Nyck de Vries has to come from the last starting place. The AlphaTauri Dutchman was the slowest in qualifying, seeing teammate Yuki Tsunoda drive the 16th time.
