Horner enjoys Verstappen: 'Is in incredible form'
Red Bull Racing finally got another double podium finish. Max Verstappen was particularly dominant, while Sergio Perez fought his way to third from P15. Horner is happy the result in the Austrian Grand Prix.
"You know strategically I think we got all the calls right today," Horner told Sky Sports. "Playing out of that first VSC I think was crucial particularly for Checo's race, and then we just had a great pace. Of course there was a bit of risk in that last pit stop that could take the fastest lap and of course in such a formal weekend that we felt thought it was worth the risk."
Verstappen picked up another so-called hat-trick: winning qualifying, race and grabbing the fastest race lap (and then also the sprint race). "I think he's in incredible form and the team's operating at such a high level that, you know, the win yesterday, the win today, you know that now matches I think our best in season run of results so you know an incredible performance so we just want to keep it going."
Ferrari cannot make a fist
Before the race, Horner stated that he was taking into account the Ferrari's. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz both came in during the virtual safety car. Neither driver came close to Verstappen's RB19. "Well we thought that maybe they might split them at that first VSC, but they did the same thing with both cars which, I mean to be honest with you, I don't think there's much they could have arguably done today. I'm sure they were trying to treat both drivers fairly but you know strategically they could have probably split but that just made life a little bit easier."
