Red Bull could match 1988 McLaren win record in England: 'Who knows'
Red Bull Racing is in excellent form in Formula 1. The Austrian racing team is incredibly dominant in 2023 and managed to win all races so far. Add to that last year's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix win and the formation now stands at ten consecutive wins. That is very close to McLaren' record set in 1988, when the British team managed to win 11 races in a row.
So McLaren's record has stood for 35 years and even in the days of Mercedes dominance, it was not broken or equalled. The German constructor reached ten consecutive victories on three occasions, but an eleventh was thus never achieved. Red Bull will get a chance to match the record this coming weekend at Silverstone and with the RB19's current dominance, an equalling of the record is plausible.
Horner sees Red Bull chances at McLaren record
With Max Verstappen 's victory at the Red Bull Ring, the Austrian team reached 10 wins in a row for the first time in its history; previously, the team did not go beyond nine consecutive victories. Christian Horner is asked by Sky Sports about the impressive record.
“It drives me nuts when you ask those questions. We can only take it one race at a time. I mean can we, yes, will we, who knows, I mean reliability, weather, etc. Silverstone next weekend is going to be epic, it's going to be fantastic there, but who knows what obstacles there could be, we saw what happened there last year, so it's a race we haven't won since I think Mark [Webber] back in 2012, so that's a big race for us on this calendar,” said the Red Bull team boss.
