Perez fit again after Austria: 'My team really helped me through it there'
- Sam Godber
Sergio Perez scored a podium in Austria for the first time since Miami in the 2023 season. Next weekend the British Grand Prix is scheduled at Silverstone and here the Mexican will hope to maintain his form from Austria.
Perez not fit in Austria
Perez was not present at the Red Bull Ring to give interviews on Thursday, the Mexican was not fit. On Friday, the Red Bull Racing driver was back in the car as usual, but qualifying went dramatically. The Mexican was eliminated in Q2 after hassles with track limits, failing to reach the final qualifying session for the fourth time in a row. On Sunday, Perez did manage to drive to the podium from 15th place.
"In the end we had a great weekend in Austria and it felt good to be back on the podium. I felt comfortable with the car all weekend and we had great pace from the start. The car really worked for me on Sunday and I was so pleased to come through the field in the way I did. I didn’t feel one hundred percent the whole time and my team really helped me through it, from set-up to strategy we really nailed it," the Mexican revealed in a Red Bull press release.
Perez wants to maintain good form
Despite Perez failing to beat his teammate Max Verstappen for the fifth consecutive weekend, the Mexican wants to maintain his current form. "I feel confident going into Silverstone now and it’s all about repeating the process together. I have taken time to rest to make sure I am ready physically because I want to keep this form going now until the summer break."
