Hamilton enjoys British support: 'Really helps you move forward'
- Toby McLuskie
Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton is currently driving a less competitive car than in his dominant period as world champion, but still seems to be one of the favourites for a podium at Silverstone. Britain will host the tenth race of the season this weekend.
Hamilton enjoys the support of thousands of Brits
The Mercedes driver seems to be enjoying the support of tens of thousands of British Formula One fans. "When you're in the car as well, when you see them, you can see them through so many of the corners on the outside of the circuit, and it's just really encouraging, and I always remember my first win here," Hamilton said.
"I think overall, the crowd just lifts you and the whole team up And, there's this kind of feeling of floating when you come here, on that positive energy that everyone brings and, just seeing so many, so many of the flags, so many of the caps, and people supporting us, it really just helps spur you along," the 38-year-old driver revealed.
Hamilton in battle with Alonso
Hamilton is currently fourth in the world championship. The Englishman from Stevenage stands on a points total of 106. The gap with number three Fernando Alonso is exactly 25 points, so should Hamilton win and Alonso suffer a big crash, the Briton will be level with the Spaniard.
