Charles Leclerc was fastest in FP3 with a 1.27.419 as the Monegasque driver found the speed at the right time, followed by Alex Albon in P2 and Alonso in P3. The session saw Max Verstappen finish P8.
Leclerc fastest, mixed grid behind
We didn't get the perfect start to the day as the classic British weather introduced rain to the Silverstone circuit this morning, the session results were more or less determined when the rain hit with 30 minutes remaining in the session.
Albon continued his form with some quick laps seeing him sit P2 as teammate Logan Sargeant was in P7. Williams continued to show their fine form and speed from Friday's practice session. Albon capitalised on the dry patch, as did Aston Martin's Alonso, who sat P3 whilst teammate Stroll struggled in P13. Gasly finished P4 demonstrating some rare speed for the Alpine team.
Hamilton and Sainz showed pace as they sat P5 and P6 with some promising early signs in the dry conditions. Red Bull were absent from the top of the standings as early rain prevented them from improving. Zhou did not enter the track at any stage of the session due to charging issues.
First Stints
Norris stopped on the pit lane exit as McLaren left a ventilator on the car accidentally. The Ferrari duo got stronger each lap on the softs, as did Hamilton. The Red Bull cars opted for mediums which caused their absence from the top of the grid with Verstappen P8 and Checo down in P14. Teams were getting laps in on medium and softs as a few drivers reported potential “rain and lightning in areas".
