Another disappointing Saturday for Perez: ‘Minimise the damage tomorrow’
Sergio Perez, now for the fifth time in a row in qualifying, has failed to make it to Q3. This time, the Mexican also could not reach Q2 either and will start from P16 on Sunday in Silverstone, while Max Verstappen put his Red Bull on pole position.
Perez kept it short in his interview after being knocked, where GPblog was present, among others. "Yes, I think the red flag lasted longer than we predicted initially, that didn't help with the temperature of the tyre," Perez began.
Second chance tomorrow
While Perez will start further below on the grid than expected, his Red Bull is fast enough to make up the positions he lost out today. "And yes, it's just a shame to lose out because we had a great Friday, the race pace was looking really good. I think starting from the back, it's going to be another race where we will try to minimise the damage. I think in these conditions is where I struggle the most with the car. My issues with the car become more apparent in the changeable conditions," Perez concluded.
