Red Bull know the details: 'Only Verstappen had that tyre advantage'
Max Verstappen grabbed pole position in a challenging qualifying session at the Silverstone Circuit for the British Grand Prix. F1 expert Peter Windsor saw a great approach by Red Bull Racing that gave Verstappen a big advantage in terms of his tyres.
Indeed, Verstappen still had two sets of brand new soft tyres left after Friday and Saturday's practice sessions. In a video on YouTube, the Brit says: "It was so impressive to see how Red Bull and Verstappen left themselves with two sets of soft tyres left for Q3. As far as I can see, no other runner did that."
Verstappen had strong tyre advantage
Windsor is impressed by the calmness of the leading team: "We didn't see Max on the soft tyres at the times when all the other drivers were running on the soft tyres on Friday and Saturday. He stuck to mediums. That obviously helps in the race, you know how the tyres are going to react and how hard you can push the car. But it also helps in qualifying at the time when he still has two new sets, and the rest are driving on used tyres."
It's all in the details at dominant Red Bull. According to Windsor, almost everything is right: "It's one of those little details that matters when you are in the lead, everything is going well, and you have a very strong car."
