Marko acknowledges Red Bull mistake: 'Verstappen and Hamilton got into trouble'
Max Verstappen 's victory in the British Grand Prix did not come as naturally as most of his wins this year. The Dutchman complained about his tyres during the race and Helmut Marko confirmed that Red Bull Racing made the wrong choice in this.
Verstappen drove the final stint at Silverstone on soft tyres and was not exactly pleased with it, according to board radio. Marko admits it was not the right choice and even calls it an "unnecessary risk".
Marko acknowledges wrong tyre choice
"The fact that we went to softs at the end was not ideal, Max and Hamilton had problems then. But fortunately the race was not that long," he told the German branch of Sky Sports. On the Dutchman's poor start, he can be brief: "He released the clutch too quickly."
Sergio Perez had a much harder time further down the field. The Mexican had to come a long way after being stranded early in the wet qualifying session. In the race, he managed to come back to sixth. " In the last 10 laps, he was the fastest driver in the field, and that while driving on soft," Marko said with satisfaction.
Furthermore, the Red Bull advisor saw Perez drive a flawless race, in which he did suffer a bit from the DRS train he was in. "Thank God he finished ahead of Alonso and extended his lead. That is our goal. His position is not in danger at all," Marko added.
