'Verstappen sometimes made us angry, was moody and made youthful mistakes'
Former Ferrari team boss Maurizio Arrivabene believes Max Verstappen has grown, both as a driver and a human being. Furthermore, the Italian also sees that his old racing team is not experiencing the successes it aspires to. He gives his take on Ferrari in conversation with Sky Sports Italy.
Arrivabene also saw Max Verstappen win at Silverstone. It was already the 43rd win of his career. According to the former Ferrari man, the Dutchman has undergone great development. "He has matured and has a very good car," he said. As a youngster, Verstappen was regularly a tough opponent for the team from Maranello:"He gave us a hard time and sometimes made us angry," said Arrivabene, who was Ferrari's team principle from 2014 to 2019. He referred to incidents in Singapore and Austin, Texas. "He was moody and made mistakes because of his youthfulness."
Arrivabene has confidence in Vasseur
He hopes Ferrari can fight the two-time world champion again and has confidence in current team boss, Fred Vasseur. "He has done a great job at Alfa Romeo and he has discovered a champion with Charles Leclerc," he said. According to the Italian, he definitely does not have an easy job:"You have to manage so many people. The pressure is enormous and you need time to find your way and understand what Ferrari means to the country."
Arrivabene praises the fact that Vasseur takes all the time he needs to make changes and does not come storming in like a bull in the china shop. "You have to get to know the people," he says.
