Alexander Albon had another strong weekend in Britain for Williams, after two good weekends in Canada and Austria. The British Thai driver eventually finished eighth, scoring four points. Albon claims he even had more speed than Fernando Alonso, the Williams driver did not get past the Spaniard at the end of the race.

Williams makes strides

Already in the free practice sessions, Albon showed impressive speed in his Williams: the British Thai finished in the top three in every session. "The thing is we definitely have a quicker car this year, and this new package has also set everything up a level. It's quite clear that tracks where there's a bit lower downforce and a lot of full throttle time, that's all us. That's how we like it. It's also important that the track remains quite cool, which today the track temp was dropping at the end of the race which made us a bit more competitive, and also not much braking. The less braking the better for us. So Silverstone works out quite well for that," Albon told GPblog.

Albon: 'Was faster than Alonso'

The Williams driver even claims that his speed at the end of the race was faster than that of Alonso's Aston Martin. "I had better pace than Fernando, which was a bit of a surprise, but then Charles was coming quite quickly at the end, so it was a race of, forwards and backwards, one eye forward, one eye back. Yeah, it became a bit of a dogfight. I wouldn't have wanted that race to last one more lap!"

The Williams driver thinks he would have been overtaken if the race had lasted even longer. "I think if it was one more lap, Charles would have gotten past. If it was two more laps, Charles would have got past both of us. And I would have got past Fernando. That's my theory," Albon concluded.
