Andretti went to Red Bull and Mercedes: 'They don't want to sell'
- Sam Godber
Michael Andretti continues to hope for an entry into Formula 1. The American wants to enter the premier class of motorsport as soon as possible with Andretti-Cadillac, but he is known to be meeting resistance from existing teams. More than regularly, Andretti has already heard: 'Then just buy up a current team'. However, there appears to be one problem.
Andretti is active in many branches of motorsport, including IndyCar, Formula E and Extreme E. At a race of the latter series, Andretti spoke about taking over an F1 team: "We've been to every team. They keep saying, 'Well, buy a team', but nobody wants to sell! You go there and they are not even interested in talking. I have followed that path, and not been happy about it," Racefans quotes from a media moment with the American.
'Influence Cadillac greater than thought'
Andretti said he is not worried about what the current team bosses are all saying about a possible eleventh team - which then has to be Andretti. Above all, Mario Andretti's son continues to work hard to build his own F1 team, something he still assumes will in the end happen. That then will be with Cadillac, part of General Motors.
However, there are critics who believe that Cadillac's influence is limited, and it is mainly about a sponsorship deal. Andretti disputed this at the Extreme E event in Italy. "General Motors is very, very involved with this. People are trying to say ‘well, they’re just putting their name on it’. No, it’s a very, very [integral] part of the whole team, and part of the team. I think once everything goes public on what we submitted, you’ll see that it’s a big [involvement].”
