Verstappen doesn't mind dominance in RB19: 'I love what I do'
The question no longer seems to be whether Max Verstappen will become world champion for the third time in a row, but when it will happen. Nobody can keep up with the Dutchman in the world championship, and the RB19 he is driving is by far the best car on the grid. Yet Verstappen himself does not mind the dominance.
The Red Bull driver is setting other goals now that things are going so well. "No, [not getting bored]. It's the opposite. I would get bored if I didn't see the chance to fight for a win. For me, fighting at the top is very motivating. I love what I'm doing," Verstappen told Channel 4 Sport in an interview.
Verstappen on challenges in Formula 1
"The challenge of wanting more and staying on top, and actually make the gap bigger is my motivation now. It's definitely not boring," said the eager Verstappen. At the top of the standings, he has to make it fun for himself as the next competitor follows at a street-length distance.
The gap between Verstappen and rival Sergio Perez currently stands at 99 points. Even if Perez were not included, Verstappen would single-handedly have enough points to win the constructors' title. The 25-year-old driver has 255 points and Mercedes, which is second in the constructors' championship, has 203.
