Horner certainly hasn't forgotten Hamilton's action: 'Came through now'
Christian Horner was delighted to see Lando Norris and Red Bull driver Max Verstappen get through Copse corner together. The team boss was referring back to the 2021 race when Lewis Hamilton drove the Dutchman off the track.
Verstappen had a poor start at the British Grand Prix, seeing home hero and McLaren driver Norris take the lead. The young Brit managed to hold off the world champion for several laps. "My thoughts were, okay, that's not great, but at least he came through Copse [corner]," Horner told GPblog and others. "I thought, okay, now I'll go over to the pit wall."
Hamilton vs Verstappen
The Red Bull team boss was referring to the 2021 Grand Prix when Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton wanted to overtake Verstappen at that particular corner. The Brit and Verstappen touched. Verstappen hit the wall hard and had to go to hospital for checks while the seven-time world champion was celebrating a victory, despite a 10-second time penalty. "It's history now," Horner said. "But it's always nice to see a car come through there on the first lap."
