Hamilton admits one team dominating is "not the best thing for the fans"
It has not escaped most people that Max Verstappen is entering a phase of dominance. Besides Verstappen, other drivers like Lewis Hamilton have also had such a phase. But according to the Mercedes driver, this needs to change.
Despite the budget cap, Hamilton thinks the field is still too far apart, he says in an interview with Channel 4. "I think we need to keep having the conversation [about bringing the grid together], " says the Briton. He thinks that if things continue like this, another team like Ferrari or McLaren will dominate after Red Bull.
Hamilton thinks of the fans
"It is not the best thing for the fans in the end," the seven-time world champion points out. Even if he were to dominate with Mercedes again for several years, he believes it should not be possible.
"If we race closer together, it is much more exciting for the fans," says Hamilton. He thinks Formula 1 should keep trying to bring the closer field together, make it more exciting and better, and he believes there should be more battles for the championship: "It's great when the championship is only fought in the last race. And the more teams take part in that, the better."
