Horner on collaboration with Ford: 'Seeing really interesting developments'
- Toby McLuskie
At the start of the current Formula 1 season, Red Bull Racing announced that it will collaborate with Ford from 2026. The two parties will work together to build an engine for the new 2026 regulations, and this collaboration is already in full swing in 2023. Christian Horner argues that there are some really interesting developments to be seen.
Red Bull-Ford in 2026
Despite the fact that the collaboration will not be officially seen on track until 2026, the development of the 2026 engine is already in full swing. Current Red Bull Powertrains will focus mainly on the internal combustion engine of the 2026 engines, while Ford is developing the electric part.
"I think that where they bring a lot of interesting knowledge is the investment they're making in their electrification and cell technology. Combustion is niche to F1. But I really think on the electrical side we're meeting with the Ford guys on a weekly basis, and seeing some really interesting developments. I think as our relationship develops from a technology perspective, they're bringing more and more to the table, which is really quite interesting. So it's been a really positive interaction," the Red Bull team boss told Autosport.com.
Horner snarls at Porsche
Earlier it seemed that Red Bull would enter into a partnership with Porsche, but that deal ultimately fell through because the German car brand wanted half of the Austrian company's shares. This was strongly opposed by Red Bull and Horner reiterated that. “They're not trying to tell us how to run our business or, they're not involved from a shareholding perspective. And it's been a very, very conducive relationship so far.”
