Allison expects more from new Mercedes front wing in Hungary

In Britain, Mercedes brought a new front wing for the W14. At Silverstone, this did not yet seem to be a great step forward, but James Allison, the German team's technical director, expects the new in part to show better performance in Hungary.
In Monaco, Mercedes came up with a huge upgrade for the car. Among other things, the floor and sidepods were quite revamped, but the front wing remained the same. In Britain, the German constructor only came out with a new front wing. This still did not take the team much further forward: in qualifying, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton did not get beyond sixth and seventh positions respectively.
Mercedes front wing should bring more in Hungary
In the race at Silverstone, Hamilton did finish handsomely third after some luck with the safety car. However, that did not correspond to Mercedes' true speed, as customer team McLaren was faster at Silverstone. At the Hungaroring, Mercedes hopes to show better speed with the new front wing, Allison told the Mercedes Debrief.
"The specific characteristics of this new front-wing that we are excited about, is that it should improve the balance and performance of the car through the slower range of the corners. Now, Silverstone is famous for lots of things but lots and lots of slow corners is not one of them. In the slower parts of that track, we were looking pretty decently competitive. I guess it will only be when we get to Hungary, which is a track made up almost entirely of slower stuff, that we'll get to know for sure. Early sings are promising, the new front wing seemed to do what we expected and hopefully it will bring us more at tracks which have a wider range of slow corners."
