Former F1 driver: 'Red Bull has actually had 21 wins in a row'
- Cas van de Kleut
There is no denying it. Red Bull Racing is by far the fastest team on the Formula 1 grid right now. This weekend, the team broke the record for most wins in a row as a constructor with its 12th victory. Former Formula 1 driver Jan Lammers argues that there are actually more of these.
The streak of victories started at the last race of the previous season in Abu Dhabi. Max Verstappen won that race. In the new season, it continued apace. After four races, Verstappen and his teammate Sergio Perez split the wins with both winning two. Seven races on, Perez has not won another race, and Verstappen continues to run further and further ahead of his rivals in the championship.
Lammers sees more wins Red Bull
So the number of wins on the list stands at 12, but Lammers mentions in the NOS Formula 1 podcast that there are actually more: "If you extend it a bit further, they actually have 21 wins in a row. One more was won by George Russell in that time. We should actually be happy about that because otherwise, of course, what they are doing was bizarre."
"You know what I find clever and striking about this season? The league is so close together. All the teams have made an attack on the throne. Ferrari at the start, then Aston Martin, then Mercedes."
