Jordan sees talent Piastri heading to Red Bull in future
- Cas van de Kleut
Oscar Piastri has been showing his best side in recent weeks. Since the McLaren has made strides, the rookie has finished fourth at Silverstone, and fifth at the Hungaroring. Eddie Jordan sees a possible future challenger in the Australian, he told talkSPORT.
At the start of the season, the McLaren was a car competing for the last spots. With each race the performance got better, and at Silverstone they were the fastest team after Red Bull. The Woking-based team did not disappoint in Hungary either, with Lando Norris grabbing his second podium in a row. A big contrast to the start of the 2023 season.
Jordan sees possible challenger Verstappen in Piastri
Jordan has been incredibly impressed by Norris' teammate Piastri. The rookie looked potentially on his way to a podium at the start of the Hungarian Grand Prix, but it was not to be. "He’d never been to this track before, maybe once in the junior formulas, and for him to come out and qualify on the second row and race like he did, and race against Max."
"Be careful where he’s going to go because I think there is big star quality in there, I’m actually blown away with this young kid, so he’d be one of the drivers I’d be looking at to challenge Max in the future."
Piastri to Red Bull in future?
Mark Webber, a former Red Bull driver, is Piastri's manager. Jordan still sees the young Australian going to Red Bull with Webber's help: "Do not be surprised if there’s a seat available at Red Bull, of course where Mark used to be, don’t be surprised if he [Piastri] is named in front of the public eye in the future. I don’t see it [Ricciardo], they had that chance before a Red Bull don’t usually go back in time, they have a very forward vision."
