Marko on extra home race Verstappen: 'A flood of Dutch'
- GPblog.com
For Max Verstappen, the F1 calendar is full of home races. For example, the Dutch GP takes place at the end of August, the Austrian GP took place last month ( Red Bull Racing's home race) and his extra home race in Belgium is scheduled next weekend. Helmut Marko expects several 'floods'.
Speaking to Austrian TV channel OE24, the team advisor looks ahead to the (expectedly) rainy weekend in the Ardennes. Max Verstappen is already 110 points ahead of number two Sergio Perez in the championship. Both Verstappen and his team seem to already have claimed the titles for 2023. At the Belgium GP with the addes sprint race, Verstappen's could widen the gap even further than usual.
Marko expects multiple floods in Belgium
Marko believes it is possible, as the predicted rain is Verstappen's best friend for the weekend. Marko: "Rain only makes Verstappen's dominance stronger. In that case, the drivers' skill will be more decisive on this already difficult track."
Besides expected flooding of the track due to rain, the Austrian also expects a flood of Dutch fans at Belgium's Spa-Francorchamps. It is Verstappen's additional home race. Not only was the F1 driver born in Hasselt, Belgium, but Verstappen can always count on a particularly large Dutch fan base along the tarmac at Spa. Marko: "The fans from the Netherlands will flood the place again."
