The Belgian Grand Prix takes place this weekend. There have been tragic accidents at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in recent years. In 2019, Anthoine Hubert died after a crash in Formula 2, and earlier this month Dilano van 't Hoff crashed. Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, and several other drivers from the classes in action this weekend ran a lap around the circuit in memory of the two drivers.

Anthoine Hubert was a racing talent in Formula 2. In the season that the accident happened, he managed to win twice: in Monaco and in France. On 31 August, fate struck when an accident occurred at Eau Rouge-Raidillon during the Formula 2 main race. The Frenchman landed in the tyre pile barrier, before bouncing back on the track. Juan Manuel Correa, who himself will be back in action in Formula 2 this weekend, could no longer avoid him, resulting in a hard crash. Hubert could no longer be saved.

Dilano van 't Hoff was a Dutch racing talent in action in the Formula Regional series. Earlier, he became champion in the Spanish Formula 4. Racing for MP Motorsport, the driver was involved in an accident just after Raidillon on the penultimate lap of the second race in the pouring rain at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. On Kemmel Straight, the spray behind the cars was so bad that Adam Fitzgerald could not see that Dilano had spun, hitting him hard. Hours after the accident, the championship organisers announced that Dilano had died from his injuries.

Lap around Spa-Francorchamps

Every year, Pierre Gasly, bosom friend of Anthoine, organises a memorial in memory of the Fomule 2 driver. This year too, pictures have surfaced showing the Frenchman laying flowers at the site of the accident. Drivers and staff from the teams in action this weekend ran a lap around the track on Thursday.
