Alonso: 'It's not about age, it's about being fast'
- Toby McLuskie
In Hungary and at Britain's Silverstone, Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin seemed to be down for a while, but after his P5 finish in Belgium, the Spaniard says he is happy. Beating both McLarens and a Mercedes feels like a good boost just before the summer.
It was double points for Aston Martin at Spa-Francorchamps. Lance Stroll finished on P9 and Alonso was once again more at the forefront, finishing on P5. Although, the gap to the four drivers ahead of him was very big. Nevertheless, Alonso sounds delighted in the microphones of GPblog and other media.
P5 in Belgium is good sign for Aston Martin
After the race in Belgium, Alonso was asked if he thinks Aston Martin is on its way back to the front. Alonso: "Yes, I think so [...] The car felt more normal, so we had a few thoughts after Hungary, after Silverstone. So the team was making a few setup changes also to the car, and I think it paid off today. The car felt more normal, more competitive, so yeah, happy and a good boost for summer."
On the Saturday of the Belgian GP weekend, Alonso turned 42 years old. The oldest driver on the grid is also the most experienced driver in F1 ever, with the longest career in the pinnacle of motorsport. Alonso addressed what his age means to him: "I think people already saw that it's not a big change when you're 41 or when you're 25, it's more in your head, in the motivation, how you approach the weekends and races like today [...] it's not about youth, it's just about going fast."
