Mercedes driver George Russell finished the Belgian Grand Prix in sixth place and can work towards a summer break of several weeks. The 25-year-old Briton is very much ready for it, he told GPblog and others.

"Yes, definitely ready for it. A season of two halves. The first six races were really strong. The last six races, not so much. There's a few ideas why that is. Quite a lot of missed opportunities this season for various reasons. Some from mistakes of my own," says Russell, who puts his hand in his pocket.

"If you're not fighting for the P1 in the Drivers' Championship, you just want to maximise the constructors. So far, we're doing that," said the Mercedes driver. "Two weeks off. It's necessary, this break, for everyone in the sport. The season has started quite intensely. It comes at a good time," the Briton continued.

Russell is currently in shared fifth place in the world championship and has brought in 99 points in the first part of the Formula One season. He shares fifth place with Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc.
