Which driver may compare himself to Verstappen? 'That will take a while'
- GPblog.com
Max Verstappen is only 25 years old and already has two world titles to his name. It seems only a matter of time before the Dutchman can take his third world title. How many more titles can Verstappen take in the next few years in Formula 1? The answer to that question is not found in simple numbers, as there are plenty of talents in the king class of motorsport, as Jan Lammers also knows.
Oscar Piastri is also a major talent of the current Formula 1 grid. He is often named as a potential world champion in a few years' time. Lammers thinks there is still a lot to be done before the Australian can be compared to the Dutch Formula 1 world champion. He explains why.
Can Piastri compare himself to Verstappen?
"I think one swallow does not make a summer of course. I think it takes a while before you are really allowed to compare yourself to Max. We shouldn't do that after a few good races. Max has gone through very difficult things. In terms of technical things, in terms of driving and crashes with the media. In all possible ways on and off the track, of course, he has all had challenges to deal with," said the 67-year-old Lammers.
"Mentally, you have to deal with a lot of things. David Coulthard has experienced a plane crash once in the past and that has also affected him emotionally off the track. That also affected his performance. Max has always performed in all circumstances so far. Piastri has yet to show that trajectory over the years ahead of him," Lammers said.
