Norris on future plans: 'Doubted about McLaren'
McLaren driver Lando Norris has been thinking about a possible switch to another team. The Briton admits in an interview with Sky Sports that the thought has haunted his mind for a while. However, the team's recent performances seem to have changed Norris' mind.
Despite an ongoing contract through 2025, Lando Norris has been linked with a move to Red Bull on several occasions in recent months. These rumours were more or less put to rest at the last Grands Prix; Norris drove some very strong races in his McLaren and says that the good performances of late have made him want to stay at McLaren. Speaking to Sky Sports, Norris said: "I want to win races with McLaren, and I want to win in papaya. I want to win championships".
Still, the 23-year-old Norris has had moments where he has hesitated to serve out his contract at McLaren. The disappointing 2022 season and the first few races this year contributed to that. "But in the back of my mind, there's that impatient game of, 'Do I stick it out for another few years, or is it time to look at something different?"
However, McLaren's update package has changed his mind, and Norris seems fully focused again on the coming years in McLaren's service. "The more we achieve things like we have done over the past few weeks, the more I'm very confident with the decision I made to stay until 2025, and the more confident I am that we can achieve our goals together in the future."
