Steiner honest about problems at Haas: 'Don't completely understand it'

Haas is yet to have a great season in 2023. The VF-23 is very strong over one lap, but almost always drops back in the race due to excessive tyre wear. Team boss Guenther Steiner admits his team still does not fully understand the problem.
Haas struggles with Pirelli's
On Saturday in qualifying, Haas often comes on strong, especially with Nico Hulkenberg. The German often reached the final part of qualifying, but in few cases could convert that into points. Especially in Canada, the US team's problem became evident on Sunday. Here, Hulkenberg started handsomely in fifth place (even after a grid penalty), but the German eventually finished hopelessly 15th, a lap behind.
"I think some of it we understand, not completely I would say. I'm totally honest, we understand some of it, because we are running too high with the temperatures, but there could be something else, but you need to always fix things you know, and then you find the next on," Steiner told GPblog and others.
Haas admits mistakes
"If it is wrong, they didn't make it intentionally wrong, they thought it was right. If you see how other people can manage the tyres, at some stage you need to admit it's wrong, because we get the same tyres, we've got the same wheels now as well, like in the old days you had different rims as well. Now everybody's got the same wheels and the same tyres, so there must be something wrong with the car. Obviously, admission is the first step of getting better," the team boss continued. The American team is currently eighth in the world championship with 11 points, the same as Williams, which is seventh.
