'RB19 is the best car, but not as superior as Verstappen pretends'

The Red Bull RB19 is the best car in the field, but it is not as superior as Max Verstappen lets the world know. That is the view taken by former Formula 1 driver Marc Surer during an interview with German Formel 1. Surer thinks Sergio Perez is a much better benchmark for assessing the RB19.
Red Bull and Verstappen are firmly in the lead
Max Verstappen leads the championship by 125 points on teammate Sergio Perez. Red Bull Racing also leads comfortably in the constructor's championship standings. There is no doubt that Red Bull has built a feat in the form of the RB19, but former driver Marc Surer wonders how good the RB19 really is.
The Swissman begins, "Yes, he [Verstappen] is in the best car. But, that car is not as superior as Max pretends." Surer therefore also sees Perez as a yardstick to determine the RB19's strength. According to him, the Mexican is a good driver, but not a high-flyer like Verstappen is. "That's where Max makes the difference: Perez gets the most out of the car, Verstappen gets just a bit more out of it."
'McLaren more dominant in the late 1980s'
Despite Red Bull taking over the record of most wins in a row from McLaren in Hungary, the former driver does not see the dominance that McLaren used to exude. Surer, himself active in Formula 1 between 1979 and 1986, takes the Woking-based team as an example. In his eyes, McLaren was many times more dominant in the late 1980s, because back then, "At most another car was racing on the same lap as them".
