Driver rating F1 23 updated: These are the winners and losers
The F1 23 game has come out with an update during the summer break of the 2023 F1 season. Codemasters, the game's developer, has made some practical updates to the game, as well as re-animated the sporting performances of the teams and drivers.
This involved looking at the past six months in Formula 1. This should translate McLaren's strong upgrades to the game, but also assess the form of the drivers. The update does still include Nyck de Vries. With a later patch, Daniel Ricciardo will be brought back to the game as the Australian replaced De Vries at AlphaTauri.
Piastri biggest winner, Stroll big loser
Given Oscar Piastri's last three ironclad races, the McLaren driver is the one who will see his rating rise the most after the update. Piastri moves up five points in his overall rating from 74 to 79. This makes him the best rookie by a distance, but he is still number 18 on the grid, with his experience negatively impacting his rating.
The big loser after the update is Aston Martin's Lance Stroll. The Canadian drove a strong first race of the season, especially because of his injury, but then quickly weakened. Stroll went from an 83 rating to 81. Other losers were Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc. Sainz lost one point on his overall rating, and Leclerc lost as many as four points on his 'awareness' but remained at an overall rating of 89. This makes the Monegasque the fourth driver on the grid.
Max Verstappen also moved up considerably, and he is now on a rating of 96, remaining the strongest on the grid. In all areas, the Dutchman gained a point. Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso both rose by one point on the overall rating. Below are all the drivers with the initial rating behind their names and the new rating behind them.
