Vasseur: 'Group behind Red Bull with Ferrari, Mercedes and Aston Martin'
After the summer break, Formula 1 returns with the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort. This means another chance for Ferrari to rack up points in the world championship and thus attack Mercedes in the standings. Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur sees a structure emerging within the grid in the current Formula One season. In GPblog's presence, Vasseur talks about this structure.
"I think we have a group behind Red Bull, sometimes with Red Bull in Quali but not in the race so far. We have a group with Mercedes, Aston, McLaren, and sometimes Alpine, able to fight for the first rows. That means that it's an exciting challenge, an exciting situation because when you are going somewhere, you never know if you will be P2 or P10," Vasseur said.
Vasseur on Zandvoort and Monza
So this weekend is the Dutch GP, and the following week will see racing at Monza. The French team boss of the Italian Scuderia isn't willing to come up with a prediction for the weekends in the Netherlands and Italy. He explains that the midfield of the Formula 1 grid is extremely close together.
"I think it's quite impossible to predict if in Zandvoort or in Monza we will be in good shape. It's not just track layout or weather related or track temperature related. It's also about the management of the weekend, the preparation for the weekend and the set-up of the weekend," said the Ferrari team boss.
